About
podilato.com is a site that I put together for a number of reasons. Curiosity and time are the leading instigators for the site.
Curiosity? Well, I’ve spent most of my “professional” career focusing on web oriented software. I had an early start doing custom “web” based applications. I later moved to a company called Plumtree where we focused on corporate portals. I was with Plumtree for five years mostly during the fun dot com days and it was great. I then moved on to web content management with a smaller company named RedDot. RedDot is now part of OpenText and I have again moved on to Interwoven. So, I live the challenge of helping organizations work with and manage their web content.
Similar to the phenomenon of unmanaged websites that plague many corporations today, blogs have exploded in popularity. There is a lot of discussion and some controversy around blogging. The current tool sets, such as WordPress 2.2.2, are much more mature and robust than Frontage which really triggered intranets and many web pages of old.
I am not sure that I have a lot of profound thoughts to share with the world, but my curiosity about the tools makes this interesting.
Time? I’ve had some bumps and bruises in my life. It looks like some of them caught up with me requiring a second knee operation. This surgery was fairly major putting me out of physical commission for a while. Yup, since I am stuck being sedentary on crutches, I have time that I normally wouldn’t have.
Somehow I managed to get married. I don’t mean that in a negative way. I am very happy about it, but I never would have guessed that I would end up married. Shortly after getting married we got a dog, Maverick. He will probably get some attention here. My wife also gave birth to two wonderful girls. They have their own sites with much more security. I don’t like the idea of the freak on the internet looking at my children. Combine all of that with a full-time job to pay the mortgage and I’ll be luck to keep up with this site very much. Time will tell.
What does “podilato” mean? Quite literally, it is Greek for bicycle.
Greek? I married into a Greek family. Languages are not my strong point, but I am trying to learn a little. Podilato is a word I know and like. It also happened to be an available domain name.
Bicycle? For starters, I like bicycles and bicycling. I’d like to say it has some neat meaning, but it is just something I like. My father helped get me into cycling when I was young, and to this day I still look forward to the times when we get to ride together. Now, bicycling is something that my girls like. They are still small, but they love to sit in their special seats on the back of my beach cruiser.
So, please enjoy the site and let me know what you think.
